FEBRUARY-2010 - "Demonstration Night - Round Robin".

rotate through several demonstrations. One station will be sleeve
making for all of us who may need a refresher prior to entering a quilt in
the April show."
Hosts:
Karen Fridy: Angelina Fiber
Angelina fiber: It's shiny and sparkly...but what on earth do you do with it?
Karen will show us how easy it is to bond, emboss, fuse, felt, and make beads
with this versatile embellishment.
Martha Claire Henzler: Sleeves for your Quilt
With the quilt show around the corner, make sure your quilt has the proper
sleeve attached!
Kathleen Baden: Hand Quilting
Kathleen will show us the basics of hand quilting, you may be surprised
how much you enjoy it once you learn the technique and get a little practice.

Winnie has made several hand pieced quilts and will show us the basics and
versatility of these portable projects.
Judy Iannuzzi: Long Arm Quilting

JANUARY-2010 - "Pepper Cory"
If you're the sort of quilter who hates piecing identical blocks, this is the class for
you! You're never bored when creating with more than one pattern. Design and
cut a wall hanging in class. See samples from Pepper's groundbreaking book on
multi-pattern quilts called Crosspatch (now available as Multi-Block Quilts from
DoverPublications.)
There will be a $2.50 materials fee for handouts.
2009 Programs
DECEMBER-2009 - "Pot Luck - Holiday Celebration"
NOVEMBER-2009 - "Giving Back through FPQG"
Meeting Overview: For new members and old, an overview of our past volunteer
projects and a look at some new opportunities. Jane Stephens will be here to
share with us how we can help the Amani Children’s foundation.
Amani Children’s Foundation is a 501c3 organization based Winston-Salem
founded by Drs. Chad and Jane Stephens in 2004 to serve children orphaned by
AIDS and poverty in Africa.
Amani partners with New Life Homes in Kenya. Since 1993, New Life Homes
has rescued over 1000 infants; most of them have been adopted by Kenyan
families. The babies arrive frail and tiny and nearly all of them leave
as robust toddlers with their own Kenyan families.
Amani is proud of its creative non-traditional fundraising. In cities across
the US, individuals and groups put their talents and imagination to the work
for the Amani children and this is where we can use your help.
Winston-Salem volunteers have made over 800 purses and tote bags from
Kenyan kikoi cloth and donated pieces of cotton quilting fabric. One woman
makes the bag; another makes the straps and pockets; another stitches them
together; and finally another puts a ceramic African bead on the pockets.
It’s a labor of beauty and friendship that stretches across continents
and generations. We would love to have new ideas and patterns, more hands
and any unused pieces of fabric (at least ½ a yd.in length.)
OCTOBER-2009 - "Brenner Tree Project"
Theme: "The Simple Joys of Christmas"
Every year for the past twenty-four years now, our guild has participated
in decorating a Christmas tree for the Festival of Trees, which is a
fundraiser for the Brenner Children’s Hospital.
For the October program, we will have pre-cut items for members to sew,
lightly-stuff and hand-sew fabric to complete the ornaments that will
be used to decorate the tree.
If you would like to help with cutting out the homespun ornaments prior
to the October meeting, please contact Robin or Carmen. We will also
be looking for help with decorating the tree on Wed., Nov. 18th from 3-8 p.m.
SEPTEMBER-2009 - "Martha Borders"
Martha is one of our own! She will discuss the creative
process and how the intuitive mind helps one come up
with new ideas. There are new ways to look at even the
most traditional designs. She will have approximately 30
quilts to show and discuss "what my inspiration is for
creating them". Her quilts range from large pieces like
Log Cabin Blues and Florametiric to miniature quilts.
